The neat thing about your mom giving birth at Valley Medical Center is that I can do this from the birthing room. Before you are even born! The nurse tells us that we are here until you are out so here it is, the first part of the story of how you were born!
It started around 2:30AM. Yes, AM! Your mom got up to go to the bathroom and noticed that there was some leaking. I know it sounds gross, but it is a good thing she noticed. It happened again when she got up for the bathroom at 4:30. That is when she woke me up to talk to me. I suggested that we wait for a bit and call the doctor at a more reasonable hour.
Your mom woke up two more times with the same leak at 5:30 and 6:30. After that the leak stopped. But being that we are paranoid people we decided to call the doctor anyways at 8AM and she said that we should come in to get checked out. So off to the hospital we went.
When we got to the birthing center the receptionist had just gotten off the phone with the doctor telling her we were on the way. So the nurses and staff were ready for us. They put us in a triage room in the birthing center to get checked out. We waited in that room for over an hour until the doctor finished with her other patients and came to see us. When she did she verified that the placenta had fully ruptured and that we were ready to start labor. Funny because usually labor starts pretty much on its own. But without any real hard contractions to doctor said we were good to be induced.
We then got moved to a birthing room (current location) and got hooked up to some monitors, given an IV etc... Once the nurse was about to administer the drug to induce she saw that your mom was having little contractions on her own. She called the doctor and the doctor said to go ahead and try to have you naturally. Oh boy! We then got sent off for an hour long walk where we met up with your Grandma Perkins and Aunt Ali. They walked around with us until the walk was over. Then they left to go to church (it is Sunday after all).
So here we are back in the room, waiting for the nurse to come back and hook your mom back up to the monitors and IV again. Then we will here how the walk affected the labor process and what we need to do next.
